SHEYENNE RIVERWAYS
The Barnes County SCD purchased two neighboring residential sites that were in the FEMA buyout program.
The SCD restored the property back to its original landscape and is using the site for educational purposes.
Restricting dikes were removed off the riverbanks to allow floodwater to expand over a greater area; a variety of grasses, shrubs and trees planted; a canoe launch developed; and grass plots established for identification and education. The SCD continued to enhance the site by adding an arboretum, picnic tables, and walking paths.

The Valley City Park District and the Barnes County Soil Conservation District worked together to stabilize the banks of the Sheyenne River along the Bjornson Public Golf Course.
